Guidance for Launching into Adulthood
Treatment Specialties
Young adults often struggle to transition into independent adult life. This might look like difficulty starting college, getting a job, moving out of the family home, or managing basic responsibilities without ongoing support from family. It’s important to know that it’s not about laziness or a lack of desire to succeed.
More often, it’s the result of a complex interaction between mental health challenges, like anxiety or depression, executive functioning challenges, or environmental and developmental factors. Many young adults in this position want to live independently and move forward — but they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or paralyzed by fear and uncertainty. Our individual or Group Therapy approaches can help both the young adults and their families learn the tools needed to support change.
At Prime Therapy, we use evidence-based approaches to target the root of the problem — not just the surface behaviors. CBT helps individuals identify and reframe the unhelpful thoughts that keep them stuck — such as “I’ll fail anyway” or “I can’t handle it.” Therapy also focuses on building skills for time management, decision-making, and goal setting to support progress toward independence.
At Prime Therapy we specialize in treating anxiety-based challenges. Whether you’re a parent looking for guidance or a young adult seeking help, we’re here to support the journey. We offer in-person therapy in our Bedminster office well as telehealth for clients in other parts of the state.
