Who We Help
If family conflict, communication breakdowns, or the stress of parenting have left your household feeling more strained than supportive, Prime Therapy can help you find your way back.
Prime Therapy is a judgment-free space to work through blended family dynamics and parenting stress.
Our team’s strong clinical background in family systems helps you gain perspective on the strain that these experiences and mental health struggles can put on everyone involved.
That's the short version.
Here's what this means, who it’s for, and what it looks like in practice.
Prime Therapy - Leading in NJ

What Does "Family and Parent Therapy" Mean at Prime?
It means recognizing that most family strain isn't caused by one person — it's a pattern that everyone participates in, often without realizing it. At Prime, we work to understand the dynamic itself without placing blame or focusing exclusively on one family member's behavior.
Our goal is to help families build insight, strengthen communication, and create a more supportive environment where everyone feels heard, respected, and understood.
Who is this therapy for?
We work with families and parents wanting to understand their role in the family system, seeking guidance on how to support their loved ones.
Families often come to Prime while navigating conflict, major transitions, or the ripple effects of one member's anxiety, depression, addiction, and other mental health challenges. Parents often come in feeling overwhelmed, under-supported, or unsure how to reach or show up for their loved ones. Many have felt blamed or judged by well-meaning advice that ignores the full family context.
Prime Therapy Leads Family and Parent Therapy in NJ

In addition to 1-on-1 sessions for families and parents, we also run a Parents Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Group in-person at our Bedminster, NJ office and virtually via Telehealth throughout New Jersey.
This group is a safe space for parents to gain insight from other parents going through similar situations. Our clinicians teach various mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal skills that will change your life!
We encourage parents whose children are in our Teen and Young Adult DBT Groups to join our Parents DBT Group to gain knowledge and learn the same skills their children are being taught to help reinforce skill use at home and strengthen their overall family system.
All parents are welcome. You don't have to be a client at Prime to join any of our DBT Groups.
What Brings Families and Parents to Therapy?
Often times the process usually starts with an individual family member reaching out to Prime Therapy for a number of reasons, including:
Interpersonal conflict between family members
Difficulty adjusting to a blended or changing family structure
Supporting a family member through mental health struggles
Loved one suffering from addiction or substance use
Balancing eldercare while raising your family and living your life
Wanting to learn effective communication skills
Needing to have tough conversations within the family
Transition of empty nesting and children moving out
Ongoing conflict with a child or teen
Young adult struggling to launch into independence
Families and parents typically begin sessions on their own in place of their loved ones. Over time, additional family members may be brought into session, depending on the situation and your goals. This can include partners, children, young adults, caregivers, etc.
How We Actually Approach This Work
Our clinicians draw upon evidence-based approaches suited to family and relational work – Attachment-Based Therapy to understand how family bonds and communication patterns formed and how to shift them, alongside DBT and CBT skills to help individual family members manage their own stressors and emotional reactions within the family system.
This therapeutic approach might involve building communication tools for a household where conversations keep escalating or helping parents understand and navigate their teen’s reactive behaviors. At Prime, our work focuses on supporting any family member exhausted from carrying the emotional weight of a struggling loved one.
What Sessions Actually Feel Like
Family and parent sessions are a safe space to speak openly and feel heard. Your therapist will help guide discussions so they can lead to clarity and connection rather than escalation and frustration.
Whether you’re coming to Prime Therapy on your own or with other family members, your private therapy sessions will feel like a trusted space where you can have tough conversations and say what you need to say.

Where Sessions Happen
Sessions are available in-person at our Bedminster, NJ office or virtually via Telehealth throughout New Jersey. This virtual option allows you the flexibility to meet with your therapist around busy work and family schedules.
It is your choice whether you meet with your therapist in-person or virtually. However, we recommend attending in-person as much as possible to achieve the most lasting progress.
What The First Session Looks Like
Your first session at Prime will focus on understanding your family's specific history and dynamics, what has brought you to therapy, and your current concerns. You and your therapist will discuss the kind of supports that can help you based on your personal and family-oriented goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work with the whole family or just with parents individually?
Both — Some clients come individually for parent-focused support, while others bring in other family members depending on what the situation calls for. We'll talk through what makes sense for you.
My child is already seeing a therapist — can I get support for myself as a parent?
Yes — Parent support is often most effective alongside a child's individual work, even when it happens in a separate, parallel process.
What if my family doesn't agree that we need therapy?
This is common. We can start with whoever is ready — Often times, individual therapy with one family member creates meaningful shifts in the broader family dynamic.
Are virtual Telehealth appointments available to accommodate busy family schedules?
Yes — Prime Therapy Services offers virtual appointments via Telehealth throughout New Jersey, which allows all clients to schedule sessions around their busy schedules and household demands.
Is this therapy only for families in crisis or ongoing conflict?
No — Families come to Prime Therapy for many reasons, including acute conflict and ongoing strain — you don't need to be in crisis to benefit from support.
